Insecure Season 5, Episode 3: Pressure, Okay?!

I'm so glad that we get a chance to see what's going on with Lawrence now. It's so interesting to see the juxtaposition of where he started out in that small apartment with Issa in L.A. to now in San Fran with what looks like a beautiful spacious bachelor pad. He's finally in a seat where he's calling real shots and homeboy has come UP.

Seeing him on this date, though. I'm glad that he's still a little awkward. He's charming but still humble. I've gotta say, though, I've never had a guy leave me on a date with the excuse that his baby was just born. Ha!

Ooooo, Lawrence is the baby daddy walking into a hospital room full of women after ending things with his now baby mama. Keke Palmer is great in this scene. "Elijah Mustafa"... that baby was given a very strong name. Very different from "Lawrence".

I'm so glad that Lawrence still has dumb guy friends in L.A. Like... no matter where you are in life, you need those friends that come with the jokes, drinks, and a place to crash when you're in town.

Condola already seems like a great mom. Lawrence is asking questions like a concerned dad should. It's still weird, though. The medical staff are all assuming that they're together and it's just so clear that they're on different pages.

Sidenote: The doctor mentioned that there have been some "ugly" babies born in the hospital. That was funny. All babies aren't cute, though. Sometimes, I feel like people share photos of their babies too soon on social media, before they've had time to fully come into their cute baby-ness. I'm glad Condola's baby was born cute, though.

Lawrence is trying to make this co-parenting thing work so bad but it seems like it's him vs. all the women in Condola's family. I like that he is trying to juggle his new job in S.F. with commuting back and forth to L.A., but it's clearly not working. That's tough. It was cute seeing him set up a crib and toys at his place, but is Condola really going to let him keep the baby on his own for a while?

I can't believe Simone is already 1! Kelly as a host for her party is perfect. Lawrence showing up to the party with Condola while sporting the baby in a Baby Bjorn is a bit misleading but cute. Oh gosh, this fight over introducing solids... I'm glad another one of his friends stepped in to intervene. I know Lawrence is feeling the pressure, but Condola is also trying to manage being a single mom, so the little that he does when he is in town really isn't enough. She is clearly trying to figure out a system, so Lawrence's assumptions about things not being a "big deal" are really serious.

This argument in the kitchen is real. Condola is a new mom, stressed out, and has no choice but to raise her son on her own. Lawrence is frustrated but thinking that he can swoop in every now and then is wrong. And that final comment about doing whatever he needs to get his son??!! Why would you make that kind of threat?

At this point, if he wants to coparent effectively with Condola, he's gonna need to move back to L.A. Ugh, I hope he doesn't do anything dumb and try to fight for custody of Elijah. The final phone convo between Condola and Lawrence on the phone... this also was sad for me. They're gonna have to work out some kind of arrangement but most of the responsibility will belong to Condola, which sucks. I'm glad that she seems to have help from her sister but parenting is still a lot of work. It looks like Lawrence can support financially, but he doesn't have the time for his baby even though he wants to. I wonder how bad he wants to make the time, though.

I'm looking forward to seeing how this relationship pans out.
